The Braves blew a 5-0 lead, and fell short in their comeback attempt in the 8th inning, losing last night 12-10 to the Phillies. The Braves lost more than just the game, they also lost their star catcher. Brian McCann was involved in 2 major collisions at the plate, and was taken out of the game with a mild concussion after the 2nd one. Shane Victorino ran into McCann on a play at the plate, and the Braves catcher was removed from the game. He will likely miss a few games.
Before last nights series finale between the Red Sox and Yankees, Manny Ramirez told reporters that he would welcome a trade to any other team if the Red Sox wanted to do so. The chances of the Sxo trading him at this point are slim to none, but it wouldn't be a shock at all if they didn't pick up his $20M option for 2009, and allowed him to test the free agent waters.
In the game, though, Manny was being Manny as usual. He went 3-5, with 2 runs and 2 RBI, helping to lead the Sox to a 9-2 victory over the Yankees, to avoid the 3-game sweep. David Ortiz also had a good game, going 2-4 with a HR, 2 runs and 3 RBI. It looks like he's healthy again after his wrist injury, and could be a huge part of the Red Sox' success down the stretch.
