Los Angeles and Phoenix entertained on Christmas afternoon, but I remain transfixed on the Portland Trailblazers and what is now an 11-game winning streak.
It was hardly their most impressive win, but even on an off night the third-youngest team in NBA history still managed to accomplish the same feat they'd done the 10 games prior. Consistency in the Association is to be admired and for this to happen with such a young group is fun to watch.
Just think what they'll accomplish with Greg Oden opposite LaMarcus Aldridge in the post. Blazers in '09!
11 wins is VERY impressive, although most of the wins have been at home. I'll be even more impressed if they win 60-80% of their road games, say on a long East Coast or Texas swing. Do that, and I might have to dump the defenseless Ducks basketball team for the team in red and black.
Its really a shame that Oden can't get his rookie bumps and bruises out of the way this year because its apparent that this team is ready to make a big jump next season.
I'm a life long fan and I am excited, hopeful but not unrealistic. I think the Christmas magic (wins all through December) will wear off soon enough. However, you can't deny McMillan has done a lot right in training his young team to be just that: a TEAM.
When three guys have a bad night, like the Seattle game, others like Frye and Jack can step up. I think the rest of the league should be very afraid of the future. The Oden injury has turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as I thought it might. The rest of the young uns have had a chance to gel and play without the microscope or the expectations. It's paying off.
