Blog Photo - Breaking: Brendan Shanahan becomes Toronto Maple Leafs PresidentThe Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired the services of Brendan Shanahan in a move no one saw coming.  Shanahan has been with the NHL for five years, as NHL Senior Vice President in Player and Safety Operations.  He now is the President and Alternate Governor for the Maple Leafs, starting immediately.

The Leafs are out of the playoffs, after having a wonderful season early on.  They seemed to be the team to beat, and just kept winning, even against teams deemed so much better than they.

Then it all began to unravel, and it continued to unravel, even with moments of greatness.  Their 8 game losing streak in March had fans and critics shaking their heads, wondering just what had gone wrong.

Shanahan has  had a stellar career, coaching the Detroit Red Wings to three Stanley Cups, and Team Canada to the Olympics.  His own playing career featured over 600 goals, and over 2000 penalty minutes.

He bring a load of knowledge and talent to the Leaf organization, exactly what they need.
