It's been reported all day that Jordan Hill, of the Los Angeles Lakers, has had felony assault charges brought upon him. He's accused of shoving and choking his 28-year-old girlfriend Darlene Luna back in February.
As of now, the charges have just been brought on Hill, he has not been convicted of anything. However, if he is convicted, then Hill could face up to 10 years in jail.
This could be a huge blow to the Lakers. Until he's been convicted, the league will not suspend him, however, he must appear in court tomorrow. This means that he may miss a game of the Nuggets series; hopefully that is all.
Hill addressed the issue earlier saying, "I'm saddened to learn of the accusations that were filed against me today. At this time I cannot comment further other than to say that my attorneys are working to gather all of the facts and evidence and I plan to cooperate completely with the authorities. I'd like to apologize to the Lakers organization and to all of their fans for the untimeliness of these accusations. I promise to keep my focus and attention on the playoffs during this time and to helping my team win another championship."
Hill has been amazing in his recent play. He scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 24 minutes during Sunday's game one against the Nuggets. These are some very valuable minutes from the Lakers' bench, especially with Metta World Peace out for five more games.
Coach Mike Brown has said that it will not affect his minutes and Hill will still be the big man coming off the bench. All Lakers fans can do if hope that he gets through the legal proceedings and gets back in time for game two.
