Bret Favre: Unconditionally Yours

Nothing like spending a Friday night at my local watering hole and finding out Bret Favre wants his unconditional release from Green Bay. I'd like to say that I'm tremendously shocked (actually a tad), but not really. I guess the communication between Favre and the Packers' GM was more than mere text messaging (perhaps they are on the same phone plan as Kelvin Sampson), but a full blown conference call. In any case, how should one feel about this?
Certainly Favre has every right to want to play again if he really feels he can. I think a lot of us feel hosed by the fact that he "retired". Can you fault that Green Bay started planning for post-Favre life? Not at all. It's not fair to the team that he keeps hedging. I mean can Green Bay reasonably be expected to change everything just because Favre has the itch? On the other hand...it is Bret Favre. I have a feeling that the organization will be villains for letting him go, but I think releasing Favre is the best for all concerned. Share your thoughts by voting on the poll question.
On to other NFL stuff...in July. Before I get to that, don't you find interesting that the Favre stuff comes out now? We must be getting close to training camp season if news like this takes over smack dab in the middle of baseball season....
Anyway....has anyone noticed the potential family feud in Pittsburgh over ownership structure of the Steelers? Check out this article: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/steelers/2008-07-10-rooneys-fans_N.htm
I've had a lot of respect over the years for how the Rooney family run the Steelers. Sure, they lose a lot of top players to free agency. But, they always manage to find the right players and they always seem to manage winning records. They are a solid franchise. Will the money new ownership bring truly help this team? Sure...but does money really buy love? Lets hope the Steelers keep it in the Rooney family...
Travis Henry failed a drug test for pot. I can't believe this close to training camp and players are doing the wacky. What a dufus....
Anyway...stay tuned for more on Bret Favre...if you care...
