If you've spent the last year reading me on this site, then you know I'm no Favre fan. I've dragged this guy through more mud than should be allowed. But upon hearing that Favre asked to be released from the Jets - not once, but twice! - and they actually did it, I'm extremely excited. Why? Because I'm convinced that this has nothing to do with Favre wanting to retire as a Green Bay Packer. No, this has everything to do with him wanting to play for the Vikings.
And it makes perfect sense. Just think about the timing of everything.
Sanchez gets drafted by the Jets, New York goes nuts with euphoria over his selection. Percy Harvin gets drafted the Vikings. Favre then asks for his release from the Jets.
You seeing what I'm seeing? Favre saw the perfect escape route after Sanchez was drafted. After all, the Jets had found their QB of the future, and there was no need to hang on to 'ol Brett anymore. Percy Harvin to Minnesota was just an added bonus, yet another reason to don the purple and gold.
And let's all be honest with ourselves here, the Vikings biggest problem is that quarterback position. Remember, TJ Housmanzadeh opted to go to Seattle over Minnesota precisely because the Vikings said Tarvaris Jackson would be their QB in 2009. I don't think the addition of Sage "Helicopter" Rosenfels during the offseason is going to help matters either.
The truth is that this Vikings team is STACKED. They have AP in the backfield, Bernard Berrian at wide receiver, Percy Harvin everywhere else, and they have an extremely solid defense. This team is primed for a Super Bowl run if they could just get a QB who wouldn't kill them (although Favre does have a habit of doing just that, but whatever).
And let's also remember this, Favre is good friends with Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.
So come on people, who cares if the man is old. This is too perfect. He belongs on the Vikings, plus he can also try and stick it to the Packers two times in one year.
If I had to guess right now, I'd say there's an 80% chance this happens.
Frankly, I can't wait.
