Brett Favre Chances Of Playing This Season At "80%"
We Might As Well Start Guessing Which Team Favre Is Going To Play For This Year
READ MORE:
SUPER MEGA HUGE UPDATE: Favre has formally requested by letter that the Packers unconditionally release him according to Chris Mortensen. So now this post really is about "where is Favre going?" Fire away! I hope he goes to SF.

I think from this point on, I'm going to limit the number of Brett Favre rumor posts per week to three. Because it's getting damn near ridiculous at this point.

Anyway, according to  Pat Kirwin of NFL.com, we have probably the strongest evidence yet that Favre is going to play for someone in 2008.
“I have talked with a few people close enough to Favre that I now feel comfortable that an 80 percent chance [of Favre returning] may be a conservative estimate. He’s throwing footballs, working out and it’s more than an itch to play.”
Pro Football Talk also states the obvious by telling us most people in the NFL are now assuming Favre is definitely coming back.

The Packers will be required to take Favre off the retired/reserve list if he officially comes back. They can then either keep Favre and pay him $12 million, release him, or trade him. I can't imagine they want an extra $12 mil on the salary cap, and trading him might result in Lambeau being burned to the ground. The Packers also seem to not want to have anything to do with Favre anymore, which is another sign that they'd release him.

So where will he go if he'll have the ability to go anywhere?

Well, the Vikings desperately need a QB. So do the Bears. Who cares if they're in the same division as the Packers. Favre wants to play, period. Seems to me he's getting to the point where he'd stab his own mom in the back to return. And hey, my 49ers could use a QB. There were also rumors of Carolina being interested in Favre. The Bucs are a good fit too.

So just for the hell of it, give me your thoughts and opinions. Where will, or where should, he go? He obviously doesn't want to go to a team that sucks. And he certainly wants to be on a team that has a shot at getting to the Super Bowl.

Although in all honesty, I'd love to see him on Dolphins just so he can put that INT record at a completely untouchable mark.

But anyway, feel free to weigh in below. Bonus points to the first person who mentions Favre to the CFL.

Favre + Argos = Grey Cup!

I am I too late? I heard there was going to be extra credit for all things CFL. Now I have a Favre, Madden and the Saskatchewan Roughriders joke out in the car. Do you want me to bring that in?

I can't believe I was actually one of the fools who believed he was ACTUALLY going to be retired.  I'm dumb.  If Favre hadn't pulled this flip-flop though, he'd still easily play for the Packers this year, but because he "retired', they moved on, so he no longer is welcome to play there.  It's gonna be F'd up seeing him with another team, but he brought it on himself, and he only has himself to blame when he plays for a much lesser team and struggles to make the playoffs this year.

Unless he signs with the Vikings, but it would be kinda douchey to sign with a division rival.

I just hope he does not screw himself and have a really crappy season!!
Hope he can get with a team that ONLY needs a QB~
Wish he could stay in GB, I bet GB will wish that too, in the long run.

We're definitely not down south, and I highly doubt we're a contender.  We got the most out of what we have last year.

I would not say that.
With Favre, I say GB has a very good chance this year.
Look at the Giants!!
Only takes a good roll to get a championship.

Welcome to F(arve)anIQ.

Even though I bag on Favre's decision, I would take him in SF.  Why not?  Good running game, upgraded o-line, a genetic freak at tight end and a pro-bowl veteran WR.  He can't possibly be worse than Alex Smith or Shaun Hill.  Hell, he might even teach the young guys a couple things.

Favre, Gore, Bruce, Davis, and Foster on the offensive side of the ball in that division?  Wow.

I don't see how they can't contend.  Young defense with a lot of talent, that has no reason to be even better.  Offensive line is strong, receivers are very good, and Ryan Grant is promising.  Even if Rodgers is average at best, there is no reason they can't be a playoff team in the NFC.

This is REALLY getting crazy! I just can't picture B. Favre anywhere except in Green Bay. How pissed off are Packer fans going to be if he plays somewhere else? How ridiculous would it be if he ended up in Chicago or Minnesota? He has beaten my Lions more than any other team in his career...so come on Brett, just hang em' up already eh!

Sure we might be able to be a playoff team, but that doesn't make us a contender.  Ryan Grant in all likelyhood was a fluke.  His splits after his first few carries were awful, leading me to believe he benefitted greatly from our passing game.  We do have a young defense, but our corners are getting older, as proven by Plaxico Burress's domination of Al Harris last year.  Our linebackers are very good, and good linebackers can make up for a lot of things, but for us to win and be somewhat feared Aaron Rodgers is going to have to be Favre-like, something I doubt he'll ever be, even if  he does have a pretty good career.

Let's start narrowing down the list.
Green Bay

This looks like a fun game...

A contender (even with Favre)

Miami               NY Jets     Oakland

Kansas City      St Louis     Atlanta

A big stage:

Minnesota     Carolina     New Orleans

Seattle     Arizona     Buffalo     Baltimore

Cincinnati     Jacksonville     Tennessee

Houston

A grass field:

Indianapolis

A change of climate:

Green Bay     Philadelphia     Detroit

Chicago       Cleveland

A move south closer to home:

NY Giants     New England

Pittsburgh      Denver

More attention:

Dallas (since he wouldn't start)

Remaining:

Washington     Tampa Bay

San Francisco    San Diego

Assuming those really are his criteria, I think we could also cross off San Diego from the list, and then probably Washington too, because of the young QB's that they already have. And if he really wants to be closer to home, then Tampa Bay seems ideal, since San Fran really isn't all that much closer to Mississippi than Green Bay... it's just in a different direction.

I edited my comment to narrow down the last 4 a little bit, and it looks like (according to that list, at least) Tampa Bay is the clear choice.

And no, I don't think he could start in San Diego. Not necessarily because Phillip Rivers is better, but because Norv Turner would never want to start Favre over Rivers, since that could essentially ruin Rivers' confidence, and therefore destroy his career. Maybe.

They still have a god awful offensive line, which while Favre would throw a ton of TD's with that crew, he'd probably throw 30 INT's.

I think that defense alone, which is one of the best in the NFC, makes them a contender in the NFC with a serviceable offense.  Granted, I don't think they'd hang with the AFC's best, but looking at the teams in their way, it's not the toughest group.  Are they better than Dallas or the Giants?  Maybe not.  But no NFC team is truly "complete"

Good breakdown, sir.  Tampa looks like the clear cut choice to me, as well, but the points being made about all of the young talent Favre would have around him in San Fransisco could lure him away from the South, I s'pose.

If that happened, however, there is a 79.2% I would gouge my eyeballs out by the end of Week 1's NFL on FOX coverage.  I can see it now -- Pat Summerall lured back to the box for an outstanding match between the Niners and Cards (didn't we send them to Mexico or something a couple years back?) as Brett makes his triumphant return.  In his unmistakable robust baritone:

"Montana.  Young.  Favre.  And so the legends continue.  A new era for San Fransisco football begins next on FOX."

If this went down, Rice might as well come back, too.  The human interest stories done surrounding this whole comeback thing would probably enter yet uncharted territory for ESPN, which I think we all know would be disastrous.  At that point, SportsCenter should be renamed Outside the Lines, and hell, just go ahead and give Chris Connelly the keys.  The whole situation is so damned screwy.

Favre in the Chargers powder blue would be pretty awesome though.

Great analysis, but please reconsider the Niners as your clear choice.  We need some kind of miracle out here in SF!

How could the Vikings be the smartest choice but the Bears too weird? They're both division rivals of the Pack. I just don't know why the Vikings would be considered a frontrunner and the Bears not when the Bears are ruled out for the same reasons that could be applied to the Vikings.

The Bears have NO offense, the Vikings have a very good running game and offensive line.  Big difference between the two.

Yeah, why not the Minnesota Vikings? They need a good starting quarterback, Jackson isn't ready for the starting role yet..... No offense Viking fans. But this would help the Vikings out alot. They got a good running game with Peterson and Taylor. Got a good receiving corps. And they got a good solid defense.
