So pardon me if I'm not surprised by this news at all, but it looks like Brett Favre is coming back to play this year. Maybe. But it's much more of a possibility now than it was before.Sam Farmer at the LA Times is reporting that Favre's agent has quietly inquired with teams about their interest in trading for the three-time NFL most valuable player. Farmer doesn't name who his sources are, he just says they're in the NFL.
What adds some fuel to fire is that Favre still has yet to give written notice of his retirement to the league or the players' union. Although that's not necessarily uncommon, it does make one wonder.
Reached today, Favre's agent James "Bus" Cook said he was not aware of Favre's interest in resuming his career.
"That's news to me," Cook said. "I don't think that has anything to do with anything. He's retired, period, point blank."
Well, that's comforting. I mean, because agents ALWAYS The league sources said Favre's decision to retire was partially influenced by his frustration that the Packers didn't make a more aggressive attempt to sign Randy Moss - even though Favre has repeatedly denied this. The team twice had a chance to sign Moss, first in spring 2007 -- before New England acquired the All-Pro receiver from Oakland -- and again this off-season, but failed to do so.
There's really no reason to doubt Farmer's story, considering it's always seemed like Favre would rather get killed on the field than retire. I guess the only question now is where is he looking?
