You know, I wouldn't really have a problem with Brett Favre anymore if he basically just shut up. And yet he doesn't. This is a problem because almost every time he opens his mouth now, he seems to chip away at his legacy. Most recently, he decided to do this with the Biloxi Sun Herald, in which he talked about all the criticism he got at the end of the season by his teammates, specifically from Thomas Jones who was pissed about all the INTs Favre threw at the end of the season.‘’As for as Thomas, I have not seen the comments,’’ Favre said. “To be honest, I am not worried about the comments, either. Was Thomas backed into a corner or in a bad mood when he said those things? I don’t know, but ripping Thomas is not my nature.
“The bottom line is I didn’t play well in the final five games. It starts with me and it should. I am not ripping Thomas because that is not my nature. My expectations of myself are high and the only one that I let down was myself.’’
Now, I'm not sure if you caught this phrase in that last sentence there: "the only one I let down was myself." So, you didn't let the team down? Or Mangini down? Or the millions of Jets fans out there? Just yourself, Brett. By the way, Favre's comment seems to lend credence to the anonymous Jets player who said Favre was distant in the locker room and had no real interest in bonding with the team. In other words, he's a selfish guy, but then we've known that for a long time now.
By the way, just to put the cherry on top of his interview with the Herald, Favre had this to say about retirement:
“I feel the same way as last year,’’ he said. “I will take some time and make my decision. I do know that I enjoy being at home.’’
Sounds good, because we all know how well last year worked out. Oh, wait....
