As much as you might hate Brett Favre related news at this point, trust me, it's only getting more interesting now. It seems that Favre is doing his best to, uh, you know what, I'm not sure what he's doing to be honest.According to Fox News, Favre has been in negotiations with the Packers to NOT be the starter. Wha?
The two sides are expected to meet again in the morning as they try to work toward a solution palatable to both sides. However, one detail FOXSports.com gathered from the meeting was Favre's insistence that he did not want his presence to destroy the team's chemistry. In fact, Favre was adamant that he wanted to do what was in the best interest of the locker room and admitted this distraction was not what his teammates needed.
Another agreement from the meeting was that, despite reports to the contrary, there would not be an open quarterback competition as even Favre felt this would not be in the best interests of the locker room. Thus, Aaron Rodgers is the team's starting quarterback.

Glad to see Favre doesn't want to be a distraction. I mean, it's not like he's been one for the last month anyway. Might as well keep the no distraction thing going.
Now, the confusing thing here is why wouldn't he want to be able to compete for the starting job at this point in time? As has been pointed out numerous times, the best team he could likely play for at this point is Green Bay. He also got mad when he was on the Greta Van Susteren Show several weeks ago about how he couldn't believe the Packers wouldn't let him compete for the starting job.
So now that he can, he's telling them he doesn't want to. Maybe he's just crazy, crazy like a fox.
My only guess is that Favre's trying to get himself traded now to the Vikings. And he's trying to do it in a way so he doesn't look like the bad guy. That's literally the only thing that makes sense. Otherwise, wouldn't he have just taken the $20 million marketing deal rather than purposely bench himself? Would have been a cushier way to make the money.
So, who knows how this ends, but if I were a betting man, I'd guess this is an attempt to wind up on the Vikings.
