Brett Favre Trade To Tampa Bay Buccaneers Could Come On Wednesday
I See the Light at the End of the Tunnel!
The end may be near for the Brett Favre fiasco. The Tampa Tribune has reported that the Packers and Buccaneers have a deal in the works that could result in Favre being a Buc as soon as Wednesday.

If the deal is finalized, Favre will likely replace 2007 Pro Bowler Jeff Garcia. Garcia has already been outspoken about his role as the Bucs' starter in terms of Favre rumors, but Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden loves quarterbacks, and has long been rumored to be drooling over the thought of Favre running his West Coast offense in Tampa Bay. Now it looks like it will actually happen. Ironically, Garcia replaced Favre last year in the Pro Bowl, and now Favre will replace Garcia as the starter in Tampa.

Once Favre is traded, the Aaron Rodgers Era will officially begin in Green Bay. Rodgers was drafted in the first round (24 overall) of the 2005 draft, and has been Favre's backup for his entire 3-year career so far. The Packers players have shown an excellent amount of support for Rodgers, and he has some huge shoes to fill in his first season as the starter.

Now, the natural questions arise:

Does this make the Bucs the favorites in the NFC? Or just the NFC South?
How will Rodgers do as the starter in Green Bay?
Who will win in the week 4 matchup, when the Packers play in Tampa?
How will the Packers' fans react, and how will they treat Rodgers if he starts to struggle?

Discuss.

Will nobody think about how this affects Elbert Mack I mean  what number is he going to wear this season. Damn he has worn that number since HS. And now just because some guy named Favre comes in he has to change numbers.

1) The NFC is wide open.  The Bucs have as good a shot as any, and they'll definitely win their division.
2) I guess we'll see.  He'll have unfair expectations like every guy who gets stuck replacing a legend.

3) Tampa always beats us in Tampa, so it only makes sense to assume that will continue.

4) Rodgers is screwed if he struggles, and you can count on Brian Brohm being our starter next year (if Rodgers struggles).

1. No.  I still like the Packers to win the North.

2. He'll be fine.

3. Green Bay has a better overall team so they will probably win.  Even with Favre, Tampa's nothing special on offense.  Warrick Dunn's back, but older, same with Joey Galloway.

4. If Packer fans kill this kid for struggling in his first year replacing a legend, then they deserve 30 years worth of losing seasons for being so arrogant.  That said,  most Packer fans are by and large pretty true to the game though, and will hopefully appreciate Rodgers' poise and class in handling the situation and give him a little bit of slack.  They haven't gotten to a Super Bowl in ten years WITH Favre, so unless they finish 5-11 I think he'll be ok.

I'm a Bucs fan and I wish that this whole soap opera would end mercifully. We have officially reached the "put a cork in it" time for this story.

I'd say the NFC is wide open right now -- I suppose this makes them a fav in the South -- but time will tell what kind of season they will have.  I checked their schedule last night -- not the toughest of schedules but certainly not easy.

How will Rodgers do as the starter in Green Bay?

Rodgers will struggle -- and most likely be injured at some point this season.  That would have happened with or without the Brett saga.

Who will win in the week 4 matchup, when the Packers play in Tampa?

I'm predicting Tampa will win -- Brett has something to prove.

How will the Packers' fans react, and how will they treat Rodgers if he starts to struggle?

My reaction is one of disappointment, but relief.  I'm glad this is almost over -- and I'm sad to see Brett go, but hopefully this season Pack management will learn some tough lessons.  Rodgers is going to be treated the same regardless.  I think we expect him to struggle -- but if screws up -- you can bet the Bring Back Brett signs will be in full effect in the crowd.

New Orleans is by far the better team over Tampa, with or without Farve.  Tampa will probably go 9-7 again, and miss the playoffs.  It doesn't make the Bucs the favorite to win the NFC or the NFC South.
