The Brett Favre circus appears that it will finally end this week as Favre will reportedly seek reinstatement this week. According to Chris Mortensen - who's only right about 42% of the time - Favre has signed his letter seeking reinstatement to the Green Bay Packers but may not send it to the NFL until Monday or Tuesday.
Apparently this is at the request of Packers GM Ted Thompson, or so Favre says.
"I asked Ted [Saturday], 'Am I welcome in the building if I report?' and Ted was just about shattered," said Favre in a telephone interview. "He said, 'Brett, you can't do that -- you'll get me fired.' I told him I'm not trying to get anybody fired. So Ted asked me to let the guys report and let's try to resolve this over the next two or three days."Well, I don't want to say too much because this is only Favre's take on the situation. Something tells me Thompson might have a slightly different opinion on how things went down.
And don't worry, Favre was of course totally cool about the Aaron Rodgers situation as well. Oh wait, no he wasn't.
"I said, 'Let me compete, you'll know I'll win this job' and Ted said again, 'Brett, things have changed. Aaron Rodgers is our quarterback.' It's pretty clear -- and this is what I told the commissioner -- that they want me to go away, stay retired. They would much rather see me in a Packers' uniform, paying me $12 million to be a backup -- which you know they really don't want -- rather than see in another uniform, no matter what they say. They'll drag this out, asking a king's ransom [in a trade], hoping it all goes away."God I hate Favre so much now. Remember how there was all this talk about how he didn't want to mess things up for Aaron Rodgers? Peter King remembers, because he wrote that. Yeah, total BS. Not only has Favre made Rodgers' offseason a living hell, he's throwing him under the bus now as well saying he wouldn't win a QB competition. Classy Brett, real classy. But at least you did this with a carefree, gunslinging attitude
Luckily, it appears Favre is also now open to being traded to a number of places, not just the Jets or Bucs. And it looks like if a trade is ever going to happen, it'll be this week. Favre is still pushing to be released, but even he can't be stupid enough to believe the Packers would ever do that. Although who knows, he's been pretty stupid for a while now in terms of how he's handled himself.
Frankly, I'm hoping he goes to the Jets. I'd be fun to see him get absoultely pummeled all year on a team that has no chance of reaching the playoffs. It'd be karmic payback on a grand scale.
