Blogging the bases from Tuesday's MLB action ...
Cubs 5, Brewers 3 Fortunately Milwaukee fans have a distraction this morning with the signing of Yi Jianlian, because their baseball team is done. 2 1/2 doesn't sound like much, but after another Scott Linebrink blown lead it'll take some major cajones to regroup. Brewers have lost 11 of their last 14 and are now 1 game under .500. Jacque Jones continues to serve me up a plate of crow, and I must say, it's delicious. If there's any good news for the Brew Crew, Ben Sheets will make the start tonight.
Cardinals 7, Astros 0 By no means am I comfortable with the Cubs lead. St. Louis continues is now back to .500, and Tony LaRussa notched his 1,041st win as a Cardinals, tied for the most all-time.
Phillies 4, Mets 2 Ryan Howard walked-off the Phils to a 4 game deficit with first place New York.
Yankees 5, Red Sox 3 Johnny Damon, yes Damon, hit the game winning home run against his old squad. Despite the Red Sox holding the largest division lead, I wouldn't be surprised to see ESPN replace its 25 hours of college football pregame tonight with a lead in to game three of this series.
