Brick House

3/8/14 in NBA   |   pigskinfan   |   43 respect

It's just a cold, hard fact that teams, no matter how well they have been going, are going to run into a brick wall and have an off night from time to time.  Such was the case with the Nets last night.  We can't do anything to plan for it.  We just have to accept it, but in a lot of cases, when one of our "good" teams runs into a buzzsaw like Brooklyn did last night, we know we can just bide our time because they will get back on the right side of things, usually their next time out.  No guarantees here at all, but the Nets next game is on Sunday at home against the Kings.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what that number is going to be.

While we can't plan for a bad night like the Nets had, there are times when I still scratch my head over it.  We could say that the Celtics had a great defensive game last night, but I have to tell  you that I don't think that was the case.  I just think the Nets went brain dead.  I don't know how else to explain a performance that included going 0-for-17 from distance in the 1st half, but yet they just kept hoisting the bombs that never hit their mark.  Wouldn't you think that at some point, somebody would have thought that maybe the threes weren't in the cards, so maybe we should start going to the rack, trying some layups or drawing some fouls?  It's a long season, and that's what I'll attribute this to.  I'd really hate to think the Nets, a team with Garnett and Pierce, would have a questionable basketball IQ.

THE NBA  (7-4 ATS/8-3 SU/5-6 TOTALS last night and 24-21/32-13/18-27 so far for the week)

BUTTA  (1-1 last night and 2-3 so far for the week)
Wizards (-470) over BUCKS and TENNESSEE (-550) over Missouri - I'm only going to get (-230) out of this pairing, but they both look like chippies to me.

ALL THE REST

COLLEGE HOOPS  (1-2 ATS/1-2 SU/1-2 TOTALS last night and 41-46/59-26/51-36 so far for the week)

BUTTA  (no play last night and 4-1 so far for the week)
MIAMI-FLA. (-340) over Wake Forest and St. Mary's (-300) over Pepperdine - It's been a tough year for Miami, but there's a shot at a little redemption and maybe a bid to one of the lesser tournaments if they close strong in the regular season Senior Day finale against a very bad road team and then show well in the conference tourney next week.  I don't expect any more surprises in the WCC tournament this weekend.  St. Mary's has got their backs against the wall a little bit with this 1st round game against Pepperdine.  A loss and they won't be going dancing,  The Gaels will be strong and focused tonight.
