Brook Lopez to Replace Rajon Rondo at ASG

Rajon Rondo was diagnosed with a torn ACL this past Sunday, ending his season as well as his ability to start at PG for the Eastern Conference All-stars come mid-February. The logical replacement might have come from Milwaukee in Brandon Jennings if they were looking to fill the point guard slot with the next best at that position.

However, they decided to reward the next best player, and it turns out, that was the best choice. The Brooklyn Nets, currently sitting in 4th place in the East only 4 games behind the Miami Heat did not have a representative selected to the All-star game in the traditional fashion, which is almost mind boggling considering they are in the upper echelon of their conference.

Joe Johnson, another All-star regular as a member of the Atlanta Hawks, isn't posting the gaudy numbers that earned him those selections anymore either. Brook Lopez, fresh off receiving his maximum level contract this offseason has responded with a very efficient season thus far.

He has posted averages of 19 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in only 29 minutes per contest. In 50% of his games he has eclipsed the 20 point mark. In 44% of his games, he has blocked 3 or more shots.  He is one of the top centers in the game, even though the league has transitioned away from the big man.  The big man has earned his right to represent his squad on the All-star stage.

Congratulations, Brook. Don't disappoint.
