FanIQ | Sports Rumors, Gossip, Blogs, News & Discussion ForumsJust over 24 hours after leading the Ducks to decisive Fiesta Bowl win, Chip Kelly is ready to make a big jump in his career. A person familiar with the negotiations claimed that the Cleveland Browns are closing in on deal that will bring the mastermind behind the revival of the Oregon’s offense to the NFL.
Chip Kelly was reportedly being pursued by several teams but he was at the top of the Cleveland Browns’ list of coaching candidates. The 49-year-old Chip Kelly was also scheduled to interview with the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills later this week in Arizona. However, the Cleveland Browns are heavily favored in any likely scenario.
The source familiar with the negotiations said that Cleveland Browns had a seven hour interview session with Chip Kelly on Friday. The two sides definitely had a lot to talk about, which indicates that the Cleveland Browns will definitely be getting back to Chip Kelly.
However, the Cleveland Browns declined to comment on any interviews with possible coaching candidates.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly “heading in a different direction” after things seemed quite cozy between Chip Kelly and the Cleveland Browns. The Philadelphia Eagles got permission from the Indianapolis Colts on Friday to interview offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, while Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley was scheduled for an interview later in the day. The Philadelphia Eagles plan to talk with Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy on Sunday as well to find the right guy for the coaching job.
After ending the Ducks’ season with a 25-7 win over Kansas State Thursday night, Chip Kelly said he wanted to get the interviews “wrapped up” as quickly as possible. Oregon is 46-7 under Chip Kelly, whose high-powered spread offense has also been incorporated in the NFL.
Chip Kelly almost made the same decision last year but he eventually turned down an offer to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.
