Browns fire Rob Chudzinski
Despite that finish, it was an unexpected firing since it was only Chudzinski's first season, and the skill position talent was mostly lacking save for Josh Gordon. The team started a respectable 4-5 in part due to the surprise emergence of Brian Hoyer, but when Hoyer tore his ACL, the team ended up with Brandon Weeden and Josh Campbell at quarterback. That was never going to work. Meanwhile, the front office showed their intentions for the season when they trade Trent Richardson. Did the Browns even want to win this season, and if they didn't, why are they punishing Chudzinski after they didn't give him much to work with?
As Deadspin compiled, Browns players are not happy with the decision, which if nothing else eliminates the possibility that Chudzinksi has lost the locker room. The whole thing is bizarre, but typical Browns. As others have pointed out, the last four head coach firings in the AFC North have occurred in Cleveland, all of which have happened since 2008.
What could make this an even bigger farce are rumors that the Browns will take a look at Josh McDaniels. Oh, would that be hilarious.
