Nate Burleson is off to the Cleveland Browns
Realize that when I say "free agent wide receiver Nate Burleson", I mean "recently cut wide receiver Nate Burleson". Burleson was released by the Lions on February 13, following a season in which he missed nine games with a pizza injury.
And so now Nate Burleson has signed with the Cleveland Browns. Burleson is a 12-year veteran who will be 33 this season, and had also dawn interest from the Miami Dolphins.
Shortly after signing, Burleson Instagrammed out a mock-up of himself in a Browns uniform with the message, "What up Cleveland! I'm excited about this upcoming season...Go Browns! S/O to @dawgpound_designs for the dope photo! #WhatCanBrownDoForYou".
You don't see enough Cleveland fans making "What can Brown do for you?" jokes.
Burleson is indeed on the older side, and the Lions chose to release Burleson rather than give him a pay cut. But he averaged a respectable 11.8 yards per catch last season, and his 72% reception rate tied him for the NFL lead (among receivers targeted 50 times or more).
Burleson's career was marred last year over his car accident caused by trying to preserve a pizza. In Burleson's defense, he would later deliver the ball like a pizza as a touchdown celebration.
