One minute into free agency, Adam Schefter tweeted that the Browns had reached an agreement with Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby. One minute later, Schefter tweeted that the Browns had come to terms with San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner. It was the best two minutes for Cleveland fans since that one time when LeBron went on a run to put the Cavs up 2-1 in the 2010 conference semis against the Celtics before they ended up blowing it.

Browns fans will be additionally intrigued that Cleveland is in trade talks for Darrelle Revis.

Blog Photo - Browns sign free agents Karlos Dansby and Donte WhitnerKarlos Dansby was the first announced agreement of NFL free agency 2014. "Former Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby reached agreement on a 4-yr, $24M deal including $14M gtd with Cleveland," tweeted Adam Schefter at 1:01 pm ET, one minute into free agency.

One minute later, Schefter tweeted "Former 49ers S Donte Whitner reached agreement on a four-year, $28 million deal with the Browns". Whitner is a Cleveland native, and was named to the last two Pro Bowls.

Neither Whitner or Dansby have actually signed with the Browns. Their agents have verbally agreed to the broad outlines of a contract with the Cleveland Browns. Negotiations clearly took place during the three-day legal tampering period this past weekend, right down to deciding which reporter they would trust to keep the news until precisely one minute into the free agency period.

Free agency acquisitions do not guarantee success onfield. Not every contract works out for the team or player. But Donte Whitner and Karlos Dansby announced on the same day, plus a nice spot in the Darrelle Revis trade race, this is all just  great for Cleveland. I don't frankly expect to hear many more Browns fans complaining about losing D'Qwell Jackson.
