Bruce Weber Won't Be Betting on the Hoosiers This Season
by IlliniBob72
6/20/08

With the dog days of summer upon us, the primary Fighting Illini head coaches concluded their P.R. tour of Illinois last night in the Peoria area. It sounds like a fun time was had by all. However, the Peoria Journal Star left the best line of the night for the very end! When discussing the upcoming Big Ten basketball season, Coach Bruce Weber had this to say...

"The league should be wide open and we can be right in the middle of it. I do know one thing, though. I think Indiana will suck. Don't put that on the Internet."

Too late, Coach! Had you said that to me personally, I would have kept it our little secret, but since it is out there, let's propagate it! This is why the people who love Bruce Weber love him. This is also why the people who hate Weber hate him. He will say what people think but dare not say. With one returning scholarship player, it is highly likely that Indiana will in fact "suck". However, it is generally considered poor form for opposing coaches or players to say as much. As for me, I love it. If nothing else, this will guarantee that the departure of Kelvin Sampson and Eric Gordon won't kill the heated rivalry between these two programs.

I don't think Webber, or Illini fans will have anything to hate about IU since Sampson is now departed. We will suck, so that statement by Webber is not that big a deal to me. Everybody is gone from last years team, except a former walk-on, and another walk-on, and I think Illini fans will respect Tom Crean for doing things the right way. IU and Illinois will always be a rivalry, I'm just glad this Sampson, and Gordon crap is over.

Wow! If I was an Illini fan, I would be upset. Weber is still talking about what happened last year with a coach and player that are no longer even in the conference, or the league for that matter. From his comments that they will be "in the middle of it," it seems that he should be concentrating on bringing his team to the top of it. Indiana will recover, and Whiney Weber will still be looking for other excuses to explain why he cannot coach a team to success.
