Remember when Bryce Harper told a reporter that he asked a "clown question, bro" earlier this month? Well, now Harper has trademarked the phrase, and is capitalizing on the use of the phrase. Not for personal gain (yet), but this time he's actually using his trademark to support a good cause.
A Denver brewery whipped up a batch of Canadian lager that they called Clown Question, Bro" and started selling it right around when the Nationals came to town for a series against the Rockies.
Harper got wind of it, and also heard about a story of a Denver policewoman and single mother named Celena Hollis, who was killed in the line of duty.
Harper contacted the Denver Beer Co., who was brewing the beer, and asked that they donate some of the proceeds to the Celena Hollis Memorial Fund.
The brewery was glad to hear from Harper, and happily obliged.
I must admit, when I first saw all the hype around Harper and witnessed his meteoric rise to the Major Leagues, I was concerned that he'd fit in to the stereotype of that kind of player, acting cocky, entitled and generally like a jerk.
So far, Harper has been a pleasant surprise, and has been a pretty mature, classy guy.
Props to him for doing a great thing here, and supporting a great cause.
