Buffon confounded by Man Utd’s decision to let Pogba join Juventus
Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon is confounded by Manchester United’s decision to let Paul Pogba join another club on free transfer in 2012. Pogba, who decided to move out of Manchester United once his contract with them ended, joined Juventus on free transfer two summers ago. Since then the midfielder has been in brilliant form for the Bianconeri.
The 20-year-old France international has been all over the news as of late. Pogba’s impressive form has had heads turning all over Europe. Mega-rich clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain are ready to pay top dollar for the midfielder to acquire his services.
Pogba’s former club Manchester United is also on the list of admirers. Reports suggest the Red Devils might make a big offer to Juventus for Pogba’s return. Juventus, who gave away Pogba a year and a half contract, will be eager to re-sign the midfielder.
Juventus’ goalkeeper Buffon believes Manchester United made a big mistake by allowing Pogab to move out of the club so easily.
“He's one of those players who leaves you with your mouth wide open,” Buffon told Italia Uno channel. “We all asked ourselves, after seeing him train with us for the third or the fourth time, when he was still unknown, whether the people in Manchester couldn't see very well.”
Pogba, who led France to victory in the FIFA under-20 World Cup, last year has replaced Claudio Marchisio in the starting line-up with Aruto Vidal partnering up with him in the midfield. Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has confirmed that Pogba or Vidal will not be leaving the Bianconeri anytime soon.
“I can see that everybody wants to stay here and sign new contracts,” Chiellini told Mediaset. “Pogba knows how important he is for us. He's got clubs lining up for him, but he needs to keep his cool and carry on playing the way he is, in spite of the pressure.
“Vidal has only just renewed his contract, and he is one of the strongest midfielders in the world. As for [Andrea] Pirlo, we're just waiting for it to be made official, but if somebody like Andrea decides to commit himself to this project again, then that can only mean we are set to grow even more.”
Pogba’s phenomenal form has helped Juventus pick up 11 consecutive victories, which has helped establish a lead of eight points on top of the table. Juventus are currently aiming for their third consecutive Serie A title.
Apart from a Scudetto win, Juventus are on the silverware hunt after being eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage. Juventus are in the quarterfinals of Coppa Italia and will be up against Trabzonspor in the stage of last 32 of the Europa League.
