Your (almost) daily round up of college hoops, or at least when anything interesting happens ...

This isn't Sparta Despite Michigan State being off to it's best start in school history, if you'd have asked me to rank this team yesterday before the game I'd have said 15-20. They turn the ball over like it's their job and do all other things well enough to win in spite of that. Problem is, if they don't do all those other things well enough, this happens. What a bizarre team. Lose to Div 2 GVSU. Beat 3-4 ranked teams, lose to UCLA by a bucket, lose to Iowa, win 8 straight, lose to Penn State. Great win for the Nittany Lions who continue to play well despite losing their best player, Geary Claxton, for the season. This win was such a big deal, they've already made a musical remix for the highlights.

Note to Drew Neitzel: Stop watching Kirk Hinrich so much.

Who needs scholarships Here's college hoops in a nutshell. Kansas State beats the best team in the country on Wednesday, follows it up by losing to a team missing five of its best players and playing with just six on scholarship.

Cardinal win I find it a little hard to believe Stanford is ranked 14th, but if you can go into Pullman and pull off a win over the 9th-ranked Cougars more power to you. Just like football, the Pac-10 isn't getting the necessary love. The Big East has the most depth, but I'd give the nod to the west right now as the best conference.
 
These guys are good Kansas rolls, Duke and UNC are set for mega-ESPN madness, and UCLA didn't let the Wildcats have a chance.
