College basketball (almost) daily ...
Embarrassing. On all accounts. Far more embarrassing than the Spartans exhibition loss to Grand Valley State. One local writer calls it the worst game he's ever watched (luckily it was on Big Ten Network). I'm not even sure what to say other than cross Michigan State off the list of good teams this year (oddly they've beaten more ranked teams than any other).
Worth noting: Spartans football team scored more points at Iowa.
Vandy falls to Kentucky, Gus Johnson The previously undefeated Commodores should have known what they had in store when noticing Gus Johnson was calling the game. Patrick Patterson (23 points, 12 boards) was huge for the Wildcats who so desperately needed something positive to build upon. Don't rule UK out of the Big Dance just yet. The SEC is very open.
UCLA takes over Pac-10 With a final score of 81-74, you might think it was a close game. Not so much. It took a stunning barrage of seven 3-pointers in the final 1:30 by Washington State. The Cougars are better than they played Saturday, but it's clear the Bruins are the class of the conference. Freshman Kevin Love was dominant again, 27 points and 14 rebounds.
Billikens decided to play a full game Just forgot about overtime. After scoring a D1 record low 20 points this week, St. Louis somehow was tied with #22 Dayton after regulation. Then the extra period start ... 13-2. Ball game. Brian Robert went for another 30 points.
Any other thoughts on the Saturday in hoops, share them here.
