College basketball (almost) daily ...Rick Majerus is going to get naked It was pointed out by a few blogs (don't ask me why) that Big Rick likes to wear his birthday suit as often as possible. So there's little doubt how Majerus reacted after his Billikens upset 21st ranked Rhode Island one week after their 20-point catastrophe. Oddly enough, Saint Louis has played its best basketball over the last week, nearly beating A-10 leader Dayton over the weekend. Watch out for SLU! No, not really.
Vols Cruise I'm not a fan of teams who rely heavily on the outside shot, and by not a fan I mean I cross them out of March Madness earlier than their seed would indicate. You're bound to go cold here and there and get blitzed which is what happened to the #14 Commodores last night. Tennessee doesn't impress me much either, but last night they hit 5 more threes which was basically the game in a nutshell. Neither team says Sweet 16 to me. You?
Wha? #12 Butler falls to Cleveland State. The Vikings aren't bad (13-5) but it's never a good thing when you lose to a 'State' of a city school. See above for the explanation on why the Braves lost and why I won't be picking them very far come March.
Hoosier 1st place Big 10 team? Indiana juuust hung on to beat the Gophers (who'll make the dance in year 1 under Tubby) who led by two points with just over a minute left. That was until senior Lance Stemler has his Onions! moment sinking a big three atop the key. Minnesota botched their next two possessions. Game over. Credit Smith for already turning Minny into a quality Big Ten contender and don't be surprised if they beat Michigan State at home on Sunday.
Putting out an APB for Marquette basketball? Smoked by 20 to a mediocre Louisville team. Their baby blue jersey are awesome, though.
A few weekend picks (hopefully you noticed how accurate last week's were):
Kansas State 67, #9 Texas A&M 64
#5 Duke 90, #23 Clemson 70
#7 Tennessee 80, Ohio State 79
Minnesota 60, #11 Michigan State 58
