CC Sabathia Signs With The Yankees, Mark Teixeira And Other Free Agent Dominoes To Fall Soon
Now That CC Is Heading To The Bronx, We Can Expect The Action To Really Begin
After waiting seemingly forever to mull over the largest contract ever for a pitcher, CC Sabathia has decided that he is willing to play in New York, and that money is more important than the chance to take a few hacks at the plate.

This not only has a huge affect on the Yankees, but it also will have an enormous ripple affect on the rest of the free agent market. Many teams have been focusing on Sabathia, while making it clear that other pitchers, like AJ Burnett, Ben Sheets and Derek Lowe are secondary. Now, those players will move to the forefront and become priority #1 for teams searching for a pitching overhaul.

Sabathia was rumored to be trying to avoid the Bronx, possibly because he didn't want to live in the city, and he reportedly wanted to stay in the National League, since he enjoys hitting. Sabathia is a lifetime .261 hitter, with 3 career HR, and is known as one of the better hitting pitchers in baseball.

As soon as he actually puts his John Hancock on all the paperwork, Sabathia will immediately become the Yankees' #1 starter. He joins a rotation that includes Joba Chamberlain, Chien-Ming Wang, and a slew of younger players like Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy, Alfredo Aceves and Chase Wright. The Yankees are rumored to be targeting another free agent hurler as well, and recently met with Ben Sheets, who was Sabathia's teammate in Milwaukee and has the same agent as Derek Jeter.

This deal will probably cause a rash of signings throughout the league. With Sabathia off the market, teams looking to make a big splash will now be forced to act more quickly on players like Mark Teixeira, Manny Ramirez, and the pitchers mentioned earlier. The Red Sox, Angels and Giants have seemingly been rumored to be interested in nearly every major free agent out there, and there's little doubt that each of them (and others) will make their big move shortly.

The first huge domino has fallen in this offseason, and the rest are sure to follow. Keep your eyes open, because the next few weeks could get very exciting.

I have no link, but I believe the deal with the Yankees is actually 7 years for 160 million.  Ridiculous!

With Brewers losing CC and Sheets... if the Cubs do end up with Peavy... Cubs should clinch NL Central by the all star break LOL

If the Yankees do sign Sheets, the Brewers end up getting screwed out of an extra sandwich pick.  So, Benjamin, do us a favor and sign elsewhere.  After making 20 starts a year for us, its the least you could do.

Also, do not be surprised if Prince Fielder gets moved now and certainly Mike Cameron will be moved.  Apparently Corey Hart or JJ Hardy could be on the move as well.  Milwaukee will still be a team to watch ths off-season, although not necessarily what we're bringing in but rather who we're trading away.

Do you think by paying another player more than he's worth that the Yankees can actually catch the Red Sox and Rays yet? A-Rod, Damon, Possada, hasn't worked yet.

i don't see either Hart or hardy going anywhere. Both are young and coming into their prime. I'd rather the brewers look at hardy at 3B and hopefully escobar's bat is ready and he could play either 2B or SS... though it seems like brewers will stick with Weeks yet again. But after signing lamb and hall's eye surgery...looks like another platoon at 3B

im with ya...and as a yankee fan im not liking the way this CC thing has played out....hes DEFINATELY NOT WORTH THAT MUCH MONEY....but as the wonderful steinbrenners have seemed NOT to learn, they will continue to throw all this money away in the hopes that maybe the leftover change in our players pockets will distract the opposing pitchers and give us a better chance to get back to the world series....its been way too long and im gettin way to sick of all this money getting thrown around every time we lose again in the first round of a playoff....man those early days with brosius, rickey ledee, luis sojo, chad curtis, shane spencer etc..all those kids that WANTED TO WIN...ENJOYED PLAYING THE GAME....THE CHEMISTRY......im really afraid its gonna be quite some time before we see the likes of that again in NY....too many individuals who are more worried about money than coming together as a team....its really pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see or want us to trade Hardy.  He was arguably our most valuable player last year.  As for Hart... I'm sick of his crap, and I'll just stop there.  Hardy has interest from a lot of different teams, and I've read that the Braves have interest in Hart.  It seems like we're going to end up with J.J Putz from the Mariners in some fashion.  The two names that have been thrown around are Hardy and Fielder.  I'm opposed either way.  If we're trading those guys I'd like to set ourselves up for a run in a couple of years, not for some closer that is starting the downside of his career.

This was never really in doubt.  I said as early as the Milwaukee trade he'd probably be a Yankee in 2009.  If Manny ends up in Anaheim, I'll look like a genius.  There are no FanIQ points for genius, but there should be.

The only question remains is if CC will be Mike Mussina or Randy Johnson during his stay in NY.

One thing is for sure, with CC in town, happy days are here again for New York City's sidewalk hot dog vendors! Wonder if the Yanks thought about inserting a hot dog cap into the contract?

Im just happy he is out of the NL Central.... the road looks easier for the Cubs to win the division for the 3rd year in a row... but then get swept in the division series again.
