Blog Photo - Calgary Flames send Jarome Iginla to PittsburghAll night long the talk has been that Jarome Iginla was being traded to the Boston Bruins for Bartkowski and Khokhlachev.  Aaron Ward even announced it as a "done deal" and TSN's Bob McKenzie tweeted that he had reported it.  Moments ago, Flames General Manager, Jay Feaster, held a news conference in the lobby of the Saddledome.  After a lot of lead in where he said there were three teams basically vying for Iginla's talent, he announced that the Pittsburgh Penguins were the team Iginla himself had chosen.

Jarome Iginla has played with the Calgary Flames for all of his 16 years in the NHL and has made no secret of the fact that he wants a Stanley Cup.  According to Feaster, he was told of the teams who were in the running for a trade and, as per his contract, he was given a choice as to the team he would be traded to, and he chose the Pens, believing, for some reason, that they would offer him the best opportunity for a Stanley Cup.

The Pens will be unable to re-sign Iginla due to salary constrictions, so this is a one time opportunity.  Iggy is placing all of his Easter eggs in one basket.

The Flames get two players who are still in college and are so unheard of that the media is scrambling to find out any information on them.  Ben Hanowski and Kenny Agostino.  Remember those names.  You'll be hearing them a lot in the next few days.

Thanks Iggy.  It was a great run.

Right? The Boston deal seemed better imo, but apparently Iggy wanted to go to the Pens.

In what should've been a win/win situation for both sides ends up with Iginla getting his wish and the Flames getting a draft pick and two guys nobody knows zero about.  This is why no trade clauses are a franchises worst nightmare

I stayed up last night, waiting for the official announcement.  My son phoned just as Feaster came on and did his yak face about all the offers he had.  I bawled.

The more I look at this, the more it seems like Jay Feaster is channeling his inner Bob Nutting.  This seems like a Pirates move if I ever saw one.  I have to think Shero will make at least one more deal to get a couple of those draft picks back, which now most likely makes Tyler Kennedy expendable.

AND a first round draft pick.  But IMO even that is overrated.  They have no idea who they will be getting.  I hate it.

Oh yeah, and Kipper?? Oh crap I'm going to ruin my good mood if I think about this again.....

I woke up this morning all happy, then remembered.  I'm still kind of in shock I think. I'm stunned that Feaster says it was Iginla who instigated this move.  I also don't know how long this move for the future will take but if I thought I was depressed about their showing this year I can't imagine the foreseeable future, especially if they do trade Kipper as well. Going to watch Iginla's news conference

I enjoyed the twitter crazy this stirred. I can only imagine how "bummed" Boston fans felt when they woke up this morning. (lol.......I think this was  a little pay back for some of the Bruins owner's shaningans during the lock out.)

Nuts. Will Pittburgh's D and goaltending be good enough to get past the first round this year? We'll see.

I'm just glad the Kings weren't involved.

This makes me sad, even though I'm not a Flames fan.  :(

I did not see this one coming.  Ray Shero ain't playing around.  It's all or nothing for the Pens now, if they don't at least win the Eastern Conference, it's a failure now.

Saw this tweet:

Just asked my buddy who's obsessed with college hockey about the two players Calgary got: "I have no idea who they are"
