No Triple Crown for Chrome

Blog Photo - California Chrome comes up short at the Belmont StakesCalifornia Chrome won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness and seemed on track to dominate the Belmont Stakes run earlier today.

It wasn't to be.

Tonalist, who did not run in either the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness, crossed the finish line first, followed by Commissioner, Medal Count and California Chrome.

Chrome's owner, Steve Coburn, went on a bit of a rant when interviewed after the race, calling the win by Tonalist's entry into the Belmont Stakes "dirty pool".  He wasn't the only one to take note of the fact that the horse had not entered into the two previous races in the Triple Crown.  Coburn, and apparently others, feel the Triple Crown should be limited to the same group of horses.

What about you?

Have to agree that AFTER the race is no time to bitch.  The Triple Crown is now 10? months away, so start your campaign to change the rules now.  And don't be a douche while doing it.

I agree with his sentiment, but I've been arguing that already for years.  After the race is neither the time or the place to argue this ish.  My momma always taught me to, when I am not the "winner," congratulate the person who did win, tell them "Good job" and then STFU (except she doesn't cuss).

The part that gets me is the Coburn knew when the field was announced that the majority of the horses hadn't raced recently.  Only after California Chrome didn't win did he suddenly find something wrong with this whole thing, even though this has gone on for years.
