I know many of you out there shell out your hard earned cash to go to sporting events. There's nothing wrong with that. It shows your loyalty, your commitment, and some other adjective I can't think of.So naturally, I'm sure you're either going to be pleased as punch, or pissed off to high heaven, when you read this next sentence.
Cameron Hughes, who I guess we'll call a "Super Fan", is paid six-figures a year to go to sporting events and cheer for whatever team is paying him. From Portfolio Magazine:
Baseball teams like the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers pay him an average of $2,000 a game to do his thing, as do N.B.A. teams like the L.A. Lakers and New Orleans Hornets and N.H.L. teams like the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs. All told, he works about 80 to 90 major- and minor-league games a year, and difficult as it may be to believe, Hughes makes a comfortable six-figure salary just by being a crazy sports fan.Yes, you read that right. While you drop money on your beloved team, the doofus dancing on the dugout is probably getting paid, and it's probably Hughes.
By the way, do the Lakers really need fans that badly? Well, it is LA. Everything is superficial there.
Now, I realize the flip side of this is - Hey, maybe I could be Hughes! But let's be honest, that's not going to happen.
I will give Hughes credit for being an entrepreneur, but not much credit. So as I said, if you see him at a game, you officially have my permission to deck him. No, in fact, I order you to deck him.
