The San Francisco 49ers started out there season quite well, but have since fallen on hard times. You can basically knock out the Rams and Seahawks right away in this division, so it really comes down to the 49ers and Cardinals. Right now, the 49ers are one game back, but played the Colts quite well.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals had a chance to take a commanding lead in the division, and instead lost to the lowly Panthers.
Right now, it looks like the winner of the NFC West will be whoever gets to 9 wins first. Because I don't think anyone from this division will wind up with more wins than that.
The good news for the 49ers is that Alex Smith seems to actually be coming around, and looks like he could be a semi-decent QB. With Vernon Davis becoming a beast, and Michael Crabtree now on the team, I'm starting to like the Niners' chance a bit. I mean, it'll still be difficult to vault over the Cardinals, but let's be honest, the Cardinals will give the 49ers every opportunity to do that. Only question is, can the 49ers take advantage of it?
