In one of the most fascinating stories I've heard in a while, a Canadian woman set out to run a half marathon, took a wrong turn, and ended up winning the Run For Heroes Marathon in Amherstburg, Ontario.
Most people can't run an entire marathon at all. 34-year-old Meredith Fitzmaurice wasn't really sure whether she could or not, but she was training for an upcoming marathon in Detroit and she had never run more than 20 miles at a time prior to Sunday.
While running the half-marathon, she accidentally took a wrong turn and ended up on the marathon route. By the time she realized it, she decided that she might as well just run the whole thing.
As it turns out, she ended up winning the whole thing, and qualified for the 2014 Boston Marathon.
Congrats to Meredith Fitzmaurice on a pretty impressive accomplishment, even if she didn't really mean to.
