Leave it to the Cubs to be a part of this truly bizarre scenario. Hurricane Ike forced the Cubs and Astros to move their series from Minute Maid Park to Miller Park in Milwaukee, better known as Wrigley Field North.
So naturally, in game one of this odd series, Carlos Zambrano pitches a no-hitter after taking off 12 days with rotator cuff tendonitis. In front of 22,441 "road fans" who were all, oddly enough, rooting for the Cubs, Big Z became the first Cubbie pitcher since 1972 to throw a no-no.
I think it's safe to call this one of those Cubbie occurrences. Oh, and I think Zambrano's arm feels just fine.
Zambrano has had no-hit stuff often over the last three years, but tonight you just had to figure this was going to be the occasion. Not at Wrigley Field, of course, not on the road against the Cardinals or Brewers, but against the Astros... on the road... in Milwaukee. So very Cub.
I don't feel comfortable thanking a Hurricane that ruined the Southeast part of Texas and killed many, but I do feel fortunate to have watched the Cubs get a bizarre break in their favor and watch a no-hitter that I truly wanted badly.
We'll have some video when it's available.
