Carmelo Anthony for Blake Griffin Deal in the Works?
Soon to be free agent, Carmelo Anthony, will be a free agent this summer and the Knicks are growing more and more uncertain of whether or not he will return. At this point, the Knicks would be lucky to make the playoffs let alone the NBA Finals. So, trading Anthony, rather than losing him for nothing, would be ideal.
According to Chris Broussard of ESPN, “With the looming possibility of Carmelo Anthony departing New York as a free agent this summer, New York Knicks officials have discussed proposing a trade to the Los Angeles Clippers for Blake Griffin, according to league sources.”
For the Knicks, they would get a 24-year-old star that would bring excitement back into the Garden and the Clippers would get a bonafide scorer in the 4th quarter in Carmelo Anthony, which matters the most in the playoffs.
It has been long known that CP3 and Melo have wanted to play together for some time, however, the Knicks may opt to roll the dice this summer and try to convince Melo to stay. But in order to do that, they must make a deep run at the playoffs this year and prove to Melo that they can recruit some better players this off season, which will be a challenge considering their large pay roll.
