If you weren't watching the quarter final matchup between Carolyn Wozniacki and Melanie Oudin, it's understandable, as president Obama was speaking, however, I live in Canada. In other words, I didn't care much about Mr. Obama, and I did care about Melanie Oudin.
Oudin is only 17 and has become the sweetheart of the US Open. However, the matchup against Wozniacki in the quarter final was dream. The two players play a similar game, so the match was tough for Oudin.
She managed some great shots, but in the end, Carolyn won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Melanie wasn't able to come back from a loss in the first set as she has been able to against the Russians. Wozniaki, at only 19 will move on to the semi finals, against Yanina Wickmayer, on Friday. The other semi final will feature Kim Clijsters against Serena Williams. Venus Williams was one of Oudin's earlier victims.
At the end of the match, Oudin showed her professionalism at this young age, held her composure, and was able to participate in an interview. She didn't bat an eye either when identified as the "Loser" of the match.
Stay classy, Melanie. You've made a ton of new fans this week.
