Carolyn Wozniacki advances, Melanie Oudin goes home

Carolyn Wozniacki Wins, Ending Melanie Oudin's Run For The US Open Championship

If you weren't watching the quarter final matchup between Carolyn Wozniacki and Melanie Oudin, it's understandable, as president Obama was speaking, however, I live in Canada.  In other words, I didn't care much about Mr. Obama, and I did care about Melanie Oudin.

Oudin is only 17 and has become the sweetheart of the US Open.  However, the matchup against Wozniacki in the quarter final was dream.  The two players play a similar game, so the match was tough for Oudin.

She managed some great shots, but in the end, Carolyn won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.  Melanie wasn't able to come back from a loss in the first set as she has been able to against the Russians.  Wozniaki, at only 19 will move on to the semi finals, against Yanina Wickmayer, on Friday.  The other semi final will feature Kim Clijsters against Serena Williams.  Venus Williams was one of Oudin's earlier victims.
At the end of the match, Oudin showed her professionalism at this young age, held her composure, and was able to participate in an interview.  She didn't bat an eye either when identified as the "Loser" of the match.

Stay classy, Melanie.  You've made a ton of new fans this week.

Wozniacki deserved to win and Oudin is a great story.  Hopefully she can keep it going.  Both have a lot of work to do in their game.

Wozniacki has a poor forehand and her second serve will get eaten alive by a true power hitter.

Oudin needs to up her power and get stronger on her serve.

Either way neither will really win this tourney, Serena is zoned in.

We have seen this before both Williams girls but they both Won at 17. Capriati i'm not sure if she won at 17? One more person, can't rememeber her name? Anyway loved her fire out on the court!! If she keeps it up she will win some day. Hey the Danish she played well beating her when everyone except her father in the stands rooting for Oudin's. way to go Carolyn Wozniacki way to go under pressure!!!

Wait a tick...who in the hell lost a match to who the f is that?  Oh well, I guess that's what makes these Cinderella stories just that.  Still a great story either way, and Ms. Oudin definitely made some fans this past week, even if her hotel kicked her out a day early and proved they weren't one of them...

It's too bad she didn't win.  Good catch on her ability to keep her composure during the interview, Debi.  That's amazing at that age.  Good for her.

I've not been a huge tennis fan, although I have watched it.  This week, Ms Oudin reminded me of what good competitive tennis is all about and I enjoyed watching immensely.  She reminded me a little of the impact Paula Creamer made on Ladies Golf with her pink - she made it FUN  to watch and cheer in a sport again.  I say way to go, Melanie! I'm a fan and will be for a long time to come.

still a damn good story - this kid has something. I think if she can stay focused she can be the next big US star.
