Carra admits Suarez is “too good” for Liverpool, but Arsenal not the answer
Luis Suarez continues to upset Liverpool by demanding an away move. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher agrees with Suarez on moving away from the club, but has warned the Uruguayan hit-man from moving to a club like Arsenal. Carragher admits Suarez is simply “too good” for Liverpool, but moving to Arsenal isn’t the answer to his problems.
Suarez, who joined Liverpool from Ajax in 2011, has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal for the past two months. Arsenal have twice seen their bids rejected by Liverpool, although the Reds have allowed the Gunners to hold talks with Suarez as a gesture of good will.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has refused to sell Suarez, a stance shared by the club’s owner John Henry, but the club or the manager can do little to convince the 26-year-old to show loyalty to the Reds once again.
Suarez claims Liverpool entered a written-agreement with him that allowed him to leave the club if no Champions League action was provided. Liverpool finished seventh last season, although Suarez manage to grabbing 23 goals.
Carragher believes if Liverpool refuse to sell Suarez to Arsenal, they will have to wait for an offer from Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“Luis Suarez is too good for Liverpool. He is one of the top players in the world, whereas Liverpool were only the seventh best team in England last season,” Carragher wrote in the Daily Mail. “His talents are greater than the stage on which he plays. Not only does he deserve to play in the Champions League, he should be winning it.
“Luis Suarez is also too good for Arsenal. In recent years, they haven't challenged for trophies; they have not made an impact in the Champions League and they are no closer to winning the Premier League.
“If Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich wanted him, I would wish Luis all the luck in the world and staunchly defend him. That is his level; teams who have a great chance of winning the Champions League. That's why I'm so puzzled by his determination to leave for the Emirates.
“If Suarez were to leave Liverpool for anyone other than Europe's three most eminent clubs, it would be a mistake.”
Carragher also had words to share on Manchester United’s wantaway star Wayne Rooney. The former England international claims Rooney would be making a “mistake” if he moves out of Manchester United.
“It would also be making a mistake if he tried to force through a move from United,” Carragher said. “Sometimes players would do well to look at the bigger picture. I can understand if Wayne has been seduced by the idea of becoming Jose Mourinho's main man, but he could achieve so much more at Old Trafford.”
