Cavaliers Dealing With Cavalier Attitudes
The 4-7 Cleveland Cavaliers were supposed to be making large strides this year. There were even talk that this was a playoff bound team after winning the #1 lottery pick, the additions of Andrew Bynum and Jarret Jack, and the maturation of Kyrie Irving. However, the Cavs have lost the last 5 out of 7 games, including a 29-point blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves Wednesday evening. After the loss, the team held a players-only meeting that went sour very quickly.
Whenever a locker room lacks veteran leadership and their best player could still be a senior in college, you are asking for trouble. Dion Waiters, in particular, may have been the topic of a lot of the contentious talk that took place after the Timberwolves loss.
According to Cavaliers beat writer Jason Lloyd, "No one on the team has really seen or heard from [Dion] Waiters since Wednesday's game." There are reports that Waiters missed Friday’s shoot around due to an “illness,” which led to him not traveling with the team for Saturday’s game, but most believe it was because Waiters was called out and rumored to be going back to a 6th man role.
The Cavaliers did win in overtime against the Wizards on Saturday and Kyrie Irving went off for 41 points, but the Cavs are going to need Irving to have a lot more games like this if they are going to make the playoffs.
