Celtics Are Interested In Stephon Marbury
The Celtics Are Clearly Insane, Consider Bringing Stephon Marbury Onto The Team
Considering the Celtics have the best record in the NBA, I found this story to be almost impossible to believe, but then there it is. The Celtics are reportedly interested in bringing Stephon Marbury on board once he sorts out how to get out of his contract with the Knicks.

No, that's not a joke.

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge did not immediately respond to a request for comment on a New Year's Day holiday for the entire league and has generally refused to address the possibility of signing Marbury. Yet it's believed that the Celtics' concerns about their depth, after losing James Posey and P.J. Brown from last season's title team, have swelled noticeably since they followed up the best 29-game start in NBA history at 27-2 by losing three of the next four games on the road.

[...]

When asked specifically about the likelihood of Marbury joining the Celtics this season, the source predicted that "it will happen."

I'm absolutely stunned by this. Even though I agree that Boston is lacking in depth a bit, the idea of bringing Marbury aboard seems to be a nightmare waiting to happen. Marbury's pretty much been a cancer on every team that he's ever played for. On top of all that, he's always been a black hole on the court. Plus the man has a tattoo on the side on his head. No one with a tattoo on the side of his head is quite right.

Frankly, this seems to be a panic move by the Celtics based on a minor speedbump, and yet another indication that Danny Ainge can only do so many good things before he starts to torpedo a team. So you lost a few road games on a West Coast road trip, it's not the end of the world. There's no need to start thinking about jeopardizing your team's chances of repeating as NBA Champions because of that.

Marbury is simply too big of a gamble for the Celtics. There's a lot more that could wrong with adding him than not adding him. And really, considering Marbury's track record, you would assume that the only teams that would be interested in adding him would be desperate teams. Boston isn't desperate.

I just can't see this happening, despite all indications that if Marbury gets out of his Knicks contract, it will. Don't do this Boston, there's no question that you'll regret it.

I don't see it as too big a risk, if he's made clear he knows his place on the roster. The best case scenario is that he contributes as an above-average role player, making Boston even stronger. The worst case is that he continues to be an idiot and disrupts things, but if he does that, they can always cut him. He has all the incentive in the world to make the best case scenario work out.

I said before that Danny Ainge was a terrible GM. The fact that he was able to get Ray Allen and KG doesn't change this. It only means that Kevin McHale is an even MORE terrible GM. The fact that the Celtics' name is even coming up in this conversation is proof that Ainge is still as stupid as I always thought he was.

That's not true at all. But in this case, I definitely do believe that Danny Ainge benefited from McHale's stupidity. And I also believe that he was a terrible GM for 4 years in Boston, and was suddenly a genius when he got KG, and now he's being a retard again. Just look at the facts.

This can be a good deal for the celtics. Its going to be like Manny Ramirez going to the dodgers in baseball. It would likely be a one year deal, if he doesnt straighten up and fly right, his arse is out back watching instead of playing again. He can make the BoCelts stronger, or he can stay home blowing money. But the worst that can happen is he comes in, sucks/talks crap/acts like a fool, and he gets cut. Very much Worth the risk.

I think everyone will agree that no GM really knows what they're doing...... their success is based so much on luck and things out of their control that it's considered a good job when they take advantage of another guy's stupidity.  You can say the same about Joe Dumars getting Rasheed Wallace, Mitch Kupchak getting Pau Gasol, and Kevin Pritchard for getting LaMarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy.  It's really only fair and accurate to look at the team now when judging a GM, and right now the Celtics are looking pretty good as defending champs with a shot at keeping their title.

Stephon Marbury going to the Celts ? Boston Is too good already with hat they have with Ray Allen & Kevin Garnett & That Rondo is the point guard of the future . There'll be a few MVP's for him if The Celts let him go but I hope they don't
