Celtics Began The Season 27-2, Then Lost 5 Of Their Next 7
From The Greatest Team Ever To Losers Of 5 Of Their Last 7. What's Wrong With The Celtics?
The Boston Celtics started off the year better than any other team in the history of the NBA. With a 27-2 record and a 19-game winning streak, they were heading into the holidays.

However, the last couple weeks haven't been to kind to the Celtics, who have now lost 5 of their last 7, and are suddenly trailing the Cavaliers and Lakers for the best record in the league. This is certainly not the Celtics team that we saw for the first 29 games of the season.

I haven't gotten the chance to watch as many games as I would have liked, and I haven't actually watched any of their losses this year, so I can't honestly say that I know what's wrong with this team right now. There's no question that they have the talent. What's the problem?

Here are a few possibilities: Some more realistic possibilities might just be that the Lakers game meant more to them than they let on, and they're a bit emotionally fatigued.

Also, they're the team with the target on their backs. Everyone desperately wants to beat the Celtics, and everyone knows that they have to step up their game in order to do it. Therefore, the Celtics are seeing the best that every single team has to offer, because everyone is kicking their game up a notch against them.

Still, it seems like this team should be able to beat teams like the Knicks and Bobcats under pretty much ANY circumstances. So what's wrong with the Celtics?

They expect to win every game without effort. That is their problem, lack of drive.

This tells you how bad Collapsing-Starbury is, he negatively affects teams that think about bringing him in.

Also it is a loooooong, long season every team hits patches like this. Just worry if this is happening in May and June.

looks to me that they NEED Starbury

Nothing......they weren't going to break the Bulls record 72 win season anyway !!!

They'll likely finish with 60-64 wins, win their division, and at least make the Eastern Conference finals, and could face a rematch of last year's Finals against LA (though I think LA would beat them this year).

To quote my good friend Denny Green - "THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE !"

People People the season dosen't really start until after the all-star break. As a Celtic fan i'm not worried Doc will have the guys ready for the stretch run. We will have home court the Cavs won't keep up this pace neither will the Magic. We needed this for a wake up call, now we can put to rest about the 70 win season. i never was for that i'm glad its over and we can get down to business. Now on to Marbury, man i hate saying this but i think he would be a good addition to the roster. Hear me out!! Sam Cassell hasn't played all season, he was crtical last year. Marbury can give us 15-20 minutes to spell Rondo when needed. He knows this is his last chance to get a ring. Check your Ego and Pride at the door play your role and get your ring. Doc will not put up with any foolishness, I know the players won't stand for it either. We will win back to back championships. A rematch with LA but a tougher series this go around.

They should get well tonight.  The Rockets come to Boston.  The Rockets have lost 5 in a row on the road...

I think the Celtics problems is the fact they are the defending champ and getting everyone's best shot every night and as great of a motivator as Garnett is, he is no Jordan who basically won the games like the Celtics have been losing (Knicks, Bobcats, Warriors) by going into "No F***ing way are we losing, just give me the damn ball and get out the way" mode.

I remember hearing on the Simmons Podcast where he talked to Steve Kerr about the NBA and asked him if the Celtics could win 72 and Kerr basically said that and there is no player like Jordan on the Celtics who can just take a game over like that and will the team to wins when the rest of the team isn't motivated to play.

Maybe a reality check. This team is dropping fast. Loss #8 already tacked on. Jeez. Something hit them where it hurt after that 2-game losing streak, because they still haven't bounced back. Maybe they realized that they are not perfect, and can have struggling times like everyone else.

Now 6 of 8 losses... definitely something to be concerned about, although they have plenty of time to turn it around.  The Big 3 played well tonight, although Rondo only had 5 points and 5 assists.
