Occasionally you learn rather weird pieces of information about pro athletes that almost seem to defy comprehension. Like the other night we were informed that Jason Maxiell, the Pistons key energy man off the bench, likes building model cars. It was a classic WTF moment. Even Jeff Van Gundy could barely believe it.

But the Celtics' Big Baby has probably an even stranger hobby. He's a nail enthusiast. And not just any kind of nail enthusiast. He's actually a spokesman for ACE Nail Care, which has to be one of the weirder athlete endorsement deals of all time.

Nowadays, Big Baby, who got his name for his size and sensitivity during his elementary years in Louisiana, has a daily regimen of moisturizing, brushing and buffing himself into top form. Those habits include liberal use of Lubriderm lotion to keep his hands soft. He gets manicures twice a month, and favors - without apology - a clear top coat.

But don't worry, it's not like he's gotten any less masculine as a result.

“My generation is changing. Guys are doing the same things women are doing.”

Um, scratch that. So what's it like when you get in the clipping zone Big Baby?

“When you knock down a nail,” he said. “Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.”

Not exactly sure what the hell he's talking about, but hey, I'm not going to argue with a 6'9", 290 lb. man.

At least Davis has a career to fall back on. Not exactly the one I would have predicted, but I'm sure George Costanza approves.
