Charles Gordon Breaks His Ankle On A Punt Return For Minnesota Vikings Vs Green Bay Packers
It's Not Supposed To Bend That Way
Sorry in advance for the terrible music... I didn't make the video.

In another vicious NFL injury this year, Charles Gordon was returning a punt for the Vikings, when he was tackled awkwardly and broke his ankle. The injury was so bad that Fox wouldn't show the replay afterwards. Which is why my sadistic side felt the need to post it here. Watch at your own risk.

Desmond Bishop of the Packers landed on Gordon's leg as he tackled him, and as Gordon went down, his body twisted, but his foot stayed in place, causing his foot to be turned completely backwards, breaking his ankle.

Gordon is expected to have surgery shortly, and he should be able to return to football. My guess is that he'll be back next year. I really don't see him coming back this year from this, but I could be wrong.

The tackle by Bishop was a completely clean one, and the injury happened purely out of bad luck. There was clearly no malicious intent, and it was simply an extremely unfortunate accident.

Best of luck to Charles Gordon in his recovery, and to the Vikings, who will need some other players to step up big in his absence.

I felt almost voyeur-like watching this - Lets hope he is able to return, PERIOD.  I  don't think he will be back this year either.

It was a College game last week when a player ran too deep past the end zone and ran into a truck or a transport and his leg snapped right at the shin. Very Very ugly.

Ugh.. brutal.. His turf shoes gripped TOO well that time.

I sustained a high ankle sprain when my foot twisted in a very similar way, although not a complete 180 degrees like this guy.  I STILL don't know how I didn't break it.  I can't even fathom the recovery time to come back from a full-fledged break like this.  I know how much pain I was in, so the very idea this happened to someone makes me a little queasy.

I saw a guy get his elbow dislocated in college. Man that was nuts. They had to bring an ambulance out onto the field and everything. I made a note to myself at the time: Do not dislocate elbow.

So far, so good.

A few years ago when I was a more avid pro wrestling fan, I saw the late Eddie Guerrero legitimately dislocate his elbow after hitting a frog-splash off the top rope.  I'm with you.  That looks so nasty and can't feel good at all.

In high school I was on the field to witness a couple of compound fractures.  Fortunately they weren't mine, but those sights and sounds will give you nightmares for a little while.  I'm pretty sure that's why I switched to baseball. :)

I guess with the loss of this guy the Vikes will only beat the Lions by two touchdowns in a couple of weeks.
