Chelsea are close to signing another Brazilian star Willian. The Stamford Bridge occupants are currently evaluating a bid for the Shakhtar Donetsk forward. Chelsea have just a couple of days left to conclude their transfer matters as the transfer windows ends on Thursday.
Willian, who is keen on joining Chelsea as soon as possible, handed in his transfer request to Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this month. Since then the 24-year-old attacking midfielder has been linked with moves to Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Presently, Chelsea are the frontrunners for Willian, although Tottenham Hotspur are breathing down their necks for the Brazilian’s services.
According to talkSPORT, Willian issued a ‘come and get me’ plea earlier this week. Chelsea immediately responded to the cause by reigniting transfer negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk.
Reportedly, Shakhtar Donetsk are ready to sell Willian for a very reasonable price. As a matter of fact, the Ukrainian club has already identified Taison as Willian’s replacement.
Willian has attracted a lot of interest in the transfer market this season. The Brazil international turned into one of the hottest transfer prospects in the football market after recording phenomenal form in the Champions League this season.
Chelsea and Willian have expressed mutual understanding; therefore, a transfer deal between the Champions League winning side and Shakhtar Donetsk is highly probably. Yet, Willian could change his mind and choose Tottenham Hotspur.
The playmaker would have to fight very hard for on-field action at Chelsea, since the London club is already juggling Juan Mata, Lucas Piazon, Oscar, Ramires, Oriol Romeu, Victor Moses, Eden Hazard and John Mikel Obi. Therefore, Tottenham Hotspur actually have a good chance of acquiring Willian as well.
“I was quite upset about what happened at the time, because big clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham were interested in securing my services,” Willian said in reference to Shakhtar Donetsk poor reaction to his transfer request. “Every player dreams of playing in the Premier League.”
“I don’t feel any pressure as I have met with the Shakhtar board and they are aware of my desire to move to a big club in Italy, Spain or England. “Chelsea are a great club and won the Champions League.”
“You always keep hoping, but I’m focused on Shakhtar and want to do well in the Champions League. The board knows what I want, so there’s no need to keep on talking about it.”
