The Brazilian midfielder star Paulinho has been linked with a move away from Corinthians for some time now. Top notch clubs from Europe have laid bids on the midfield prospect, but none were able to win his signature.

Chelsea came very close to signing Paulinho, but the negotiation fell apart in the last minute. The Champions League winning side are still eyeing the 24-year-old Brazilian with interest.

Inter Milan has been trying to formulate a move away for Paulinho, but the Brazilian himself has snubbed a move to San Siro. Paulinho has revealed that after a discussion with his family, he had to rule out a move to Inter Milan.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has been linked with a Paulinho for some time now. The Stamford Bridge boss is expected to go after the young midfielder in the January transfer window.

However, Chelsea will have to battle for Paulinho’s rights against other heavyweights from Europe. AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in acquiring the services of the stalwart midfielder.

Paulinho revealed that although he was receiving a lot of interest from European clubs, Corinthians wanted him to stay in Brazil.

“There's been a lot of speculation and many lies. When there was a proposal I spoke openly,” Paulinho  said in an interview to ESPN Brasil.

“I sat with my wife and showed her the proposal from Inter Milan. I actually felt shaken by the proposal, but the Corinthians board did everything they could to keep me.

“That surprised me, and affected my decision. There are times when you have to think about money, and other times you have to give up of that to favour of your career.”

A fortnight ago a report from The Daily Mail claimed that Corinthians President Mario Gobbi Filho had issued the Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo a warning to keep his hands of Paulinho.

However, Chelsea will continue to pursue the £9 million midfielder. Roberto Di Matteo wants to strengthen his midfield by adding Paulinho to his central midfield, although he already has the services of John Obi-Mikel and Ramires.
