Chelsea prospect Radamel Falcao set to stay at Atletico Madrid this season
Chelsea are ready to break their banks for Radamel Falcao, but the Atletico Madrid star has decided to extend his stay in Spain till the end of the season. The Colombian striker has revealed he has no plans of leaving Atletico Madrid this season, although mega-rich clubs from across Europe are ready to spend on his services.
Acknowledging interest from European powerhouses Radamel Falcao admitted he was filled with “pride”. However, the striker wants to repay Atletico Madrid for turning him into one of the hottest transfer prospects in the football market.
Radamel Falcao has scored 17 league goals this season, which is one of the main reasons Atletico Madrid have been able to keep pace with the high-flying Barcelona. The 26-year-old’s phenomenal form has been attracting European powerhouses for over two years now.
The Colombia international first entered the football market in the 2009-2010 season after scoring 34 goals in 43 appearances in his debut season for Porto. The following season Radamel Falcao scored 38 goals 42 appearances.
Atletico Madrid signed him the very next season for €40 million. The striker continued with his blistering form by scoring 36 goals in 50 appearances. This season Radamel Falcao has already scored 20 goals in 16 appearances.
Initially, Radamel Falcao wanted to see out his three-year contract with Atletico Madrid, but rising interest from big-money clubs convinced Atletico Madrid and their coveted striker into a lucrative transfer move.
In a recent football conference, Radamel Falcao confessed he “didn't know what would happen in the future.”
Presently, Chelsea are the front-runners for Radamel Falcao’s signature. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to shell millions for coveted striker, but his will alone doesn’t guarantee the arrival of Radamel Falcao.
In spite of Radamel Falcao’s latest statements Chelsea are looking forward to pairing up Radamel Falcao with Fernando Torres in the attack. With Daniel Sturridge set for a move to Liverpool, interim manager Rafael Benitez will be on the hunt for his replacement.
