Chelsea are hoping to take advantage of the January transfer window by adding a couple of big names to their squad. The Champions League winning side are tired of their misfiring star Fernando Torres, which means Rafael Benitez will be looking to add firepower to his squad.
Reports from England suggest that Chelsea will be on the hunt for Real Madrid star Karim Benzema this fall. The 24-year-old forward has been in fine form for Real Madrid as of late. Last season Karim Benzema scored 32 goals and assisted 15 times in 52 appearances.
The Frenchman has kicked off to a brilliant start once again, although his progress has been comparatively slower. Jose Mourinho’s new tactics have forced Karim Benzema to start off the bench or play a more supportive role more often in the team, which is why he has seven goals and 10 assists in 21 games this season.
Chelsea are promising to return the Frenchman hitman to his former glory. Chelsea started the season on a high, but their form has slowly deteriorated. Their under par performances have seen the club slip from the top position to fourth in the English Premier League.
The London club hasn’t been able to register a single victory in the last seven games, a fact which has put the new interim manager Rafael Benitez under a lot of pressure. Chelsea’s Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich could sack the Spaniard by New Year’s Eve if he doesn’t turn around the fate of the club.
For that to happen Chelsea needs to win games and that can only happen if they start to score goals. So, basically it all comes down to the performance of Chelsea’s one and only striker Fernando Torres.
In order to secure his berth at Chelsea, Rafael Benitez needs to secure a Champions League spot for next season. Unfortunately, his £50 million striker hasn’t scored in more than 11 hours of Premier League action. Henceforth, Chelsea’s rising interest in Real Madrid’s overshadowed striker is quite understandable.
Chelsea will obviously try to lure in Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid once again, which means Karim Benzema will be their contingency plan. Considering the fact that Radamel Falcao signed in an extension contract not too long ago and that he is looking forward to a summer move, Chelsea will be more focused towards Karim Benzema during the January transfer window.
Clubs insiders have revealed Roman Abramovich is willing to spend as much £35-40 million for Karim Benzema. Well, in that scenario Chelsea has a good shot at acquiring the services of the Real Madrid star.
