Chelsea star Fernando Torres is a threat to Manchester United, Wayne Rooney
Fernando Torres’ form has been questioned by fans and critics since the Spaniard moved from Liverpool to Chelsea. The former Atletico Madrid has regained his goal-scoring form, but the 28-year-old striker is still a shadow of his former success.
Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney claims Fernando Torres will be the biggest threat to his side when Sir Alex Ferguson and Co. travel to play against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The England striker Wayne Rooney told The Sun that Fernando Torres is suffering from a slump in form, however he still the potential to score against the toughest defense on the planet. Manchester United’s injury woes continue to aggravate their defensive department.
Wayne Rooney also suggested that Chelsea’s Champions League trophy has fueled Manchester United’s desire to become the Premier League champions once again. Presently, Chelsea are the Premier League leaders and possess a four-point lead over Manchester United.
Chelsea’s new young attacking squad is showing fine team chemistry under manager Roberto Di Matteo. Ironically, Chelsea has only two strikers in their squad; Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge, still they are managing to grab big wins.
“They have brought in some fantastic players and added more speed to the team,” Wayne Rooney said. “The important thing first of all is to make sure we defend well against them and then try and score. We have to make sure we are at our best to try and beat them.
“As for [Fernando] Torres, of course he is still a threat. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves because he works hard for the team. Sometimes the goals go in for him other times they don't but he's always trying,” Wayne Rooney added.
Fernando Torres scored 12 goals in the first 57 appearances for Chelsea during the first two season. This season he has already six goals in 13 appearances.
Manchester United hasn’t won at the Stamford Bridge for over a year. In spite of that fact, Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United can win the game if they avoid falling behind on goals. Manchester United has fallen behind eight times this season.
“We can't afford to do that this time,” Wayne Rooney declared. “It happened against Braga and we did well to get back in the game and win it, but you can't afford to be going one or two goals down against Chelsea away.”
