Chelsea’s summer spending spree will overshadow Arsenal once again, Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal will be left in Chelsea’s shadow once again this summer as the Blues prepare to spend their way back into the elite. The French boss suspects Chelsea of having big plans for the summer transfer window, which mostly includes spending treasure chests on acquiring top drawer players from the market.
The Arsenal manager has also backed Jose Mourinho’s return to Chelsea. Arsene Wenger believes Chelsea will record immediate improvement if the former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s desire to sign in Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho send out an ominous signal about their intentions. Arsene Wenger was equally forthright to suggest that Chelsea won’t be scared to spend big in order to reclaim their spot in the top-four.
“I'm afraid of what Chelsea can do in the summer,” Arsene Wenger told Eurosport. “We have to be prepared for them to be one of the biggest movers in terms of investment once the window opens.
“We've heard a lot of talk about Falcao. Some people say it's already a done deal, but I've heard nothing. Even though they already have a great base to their squad, notably their young players such as Oscar, Juan Mata, Ramires and Eden Hazard, I think they will be busy during the transfer window.
“I think Chelsea currently have a great coach in Rafa Benitez, but if they part ways at the end of season, of course Jose Mourinho would be a good solution for Chelsea. Mourinho is one of the best in the world, but I consider Benitez to be doing a good job at Stamford Bridge.”
Arsene Wenger’s renewed interest in Chelsea’s transfer plans arrives after the Blues reportedly re-opened talks with the Colombian hit-man Radamel Falcao. Chelsea is also showing interest in acquiring Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic.
Arsenal are currently positioned third on the Premier League table, but they could lose their spot to London rivals Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur. Both clubs have a game in hand and in Chelsea’s case a better goal difference as well.
Chelsea is only a point away from Arsenal, who are sitting third with 68 points. Tottenham Hotspur are two points away from Arsenal, which means victory in their next game could propel them over the Gunners as well.
