If the Cubs are going to come back and win this series, they're going to have to do something that's never been done before. Since the NLDS was inaugurated in 1995, 16 teams have fallen into an 0-2 hole and all 16 of them lost the series, 13 of them ending in sweeps. But hey, just because it's never been done before doesn't mean it can't be done.
Perhaps it's going to take the Cubs playing on the road to get them to concentrate, because they certainly weren't doing that when they were in Chicago. The team with the best record in the NL during the regular season couldn't pitch, couldn't field, and wasn't mustering much offense at home.
The good news for the Cubs is that they have Rich Harden taking the mound tonight. Harden was 5-1 with a 1.77 ERA while with the Cubs this season. The one problem is that he has recently had some issues with wildness. He's walked 11 batters in his last 11 innings, although that's still a better Ryan Dempster right now.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers will send Hiroki Kuroda (9-10, 3.73) to the mound. The 33-year-old rookie went 1-1 against the Cubs this year, but allowed only one earned run in 15 1-3 innings and pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts against the Cubs at Dodger Stadium in a 3-0 victory on June 6.
The fact of the matter is that the Cubs should win this game, even though they're on the road. But we'll see if the team has their heads screwed on straight or is too busy thinking about how cursed they are. You would think that with the Cubs down 0-2, they'll be able to play much looser, since no one is expecting anything from them anymore.
Right now, 65% of FanIQ thinks the Cubs will win.
