I don't watch a whole lot of marathons for obvious reasons, but I can safely say this year's Chicago race likely featured the best combined finishes of any in recent memory.
The men's race (above) was a photo finish (no thanks to the idiot holding the banner) with the going to Patrick Ivuti. Guess what country he's from?
As for the women's finish(below), well, we might have a new goat in Chicago. Race leader for most of the day, Adriana Pirtea, was enjoying her ride home, high-fiving and waving to fans. She forgot one important detail ... check behind you to see if anyone is close. Oops. After learning everything there was to know about Pirtea during the broadcast, what else are you going to talk about, I actually felt pretty bad for her.
Anyways, all of this was overshadowed by the unfortunate death of a participant. It was ridiculously hot here for mid October, and the marathon was called off midway through the run for most of the regular runners.
