He has sustained damage to three of the four major ligaments in the knee: the ACL, PCL, and MCL. With knee damage to this extent, how healthy is Daunte and how mobile will he be? Being a quarterback for the Chiefs right now, requires a quarterback to be able to run for his life! Kansas City has a very weak offensive line that any mediocre defense will be able to plow through. Daunte has always been known as a tough quarterback who can run for the yards needed to get his team a first down or even a touchdown. He's physically built tough and strong and can usually withstand a block or two and has been known to be a tough player to tackle. But, can he be elusive enough to escape a defensive line cutting through the Chiefs offensive line? This I am not sure.
There are some qualities that I think Daunte could bring to the Chiefs organization if he does not get injured. First of all, this season is pretty much a wash out. But, if he can come into the organization and get a feel for the plays and make some connections with Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez before the years end, then next season might have some potentional for the Chiefs. I still believe that the Chiefs need to spend their first draft pick on a premiere quarterback for the 2009 season. If we get a premiere quarterback and if Daunte can groom him for the 2009-2010 season, maybe we would have a chance at finally being contenders. Daunte would bring leadership to this team. This is a quality that no player on the Chiefs team seems to want to take on. Daunte could and I think would take on the leadership role - he is a presence on the football field and he demands respect or else he will burn you.
