It's been a while since I've done a post on the Olympics. Too long. But what can I say? It's been a while since China has done anything completely ridiculous in preparation for them.But no longer.
Today China announced its official Olympic cheer. Are you ready for it? Of course you are.
"Aoyun! Jia You! Zhongguo! Jia You!" - which literally translates as "Olympics! Add petrol! China! Add petrol!"
Which is great. I mean, if you were an athlete that just won an important race wouldn't you like to be ordered to get gas for your country? I know I would.
In addition to the bizarre cheer, China also has produced this fun little illustration to help people learn how to cheer.
OK, that's not so fun, but what is fun is how many institutions it took to create that one illustration. The cartoon is the joint product of the Communist Party’s spiritual civilization bureau, the ministry of education, the Beijing Olympics organizing committee, and state television. That's one institution per drawing. That's commie efficiency for you.
